Poem: The Story of Harriet

The Story of Harriet

Inspired by the book

Freedom Train

In her masters bed room,

She sweeps around with a broom.

In the kitchen, she washes all the dishes,

And grants all her masters wishes.

Up and down the stairs she goes,

Folding all the clothes in rows.

Work, work here, work, work there,

Her master and mistress don’t even care.

The dishes as clean as a crown,

Won’t make her master frown.

Workers work for money,

But slaves don’t get a penny.

This is a story of a slave.

Remember, don’t buy a slave…

Or you’ll put her in a grave.
